ΜΟΥΣΕΣ
In ancient Greece, there were nine wonderful deities called Muses. These magical sisters were the patrons of the arts and sciences, and each had a special talent. They were the daughters of the mighty Zeus, the king of the gods, and Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory.
The Muses lived in the beautiful mountains of Mount Helicon and Mount Parnassus, where birds sang sweetly and flowers bloomed everywhere. Every day, the Muses inspired artists, poets and scientists to create wonderful works of art.
Calliope was the Muse of epic poetry and rhetoric. She was considered the most serious of her sisters and was usually depicted with a writing tablet and a pen, symbols of her exceptional ability to compose heroic poems.
Cleo loved to recount events of history. Always with her history books and a kylix (scroll), Cleo helped people remember and learn from the past.
Erato was an expert in love poetry and the inspiration for the tender love stories. She was usually depicted with a lyre or a guitar, symbols of the music and romantic poetry she loved so much.
Efterpi loved music and lyrical poetry. Holding a flute, she inspired musicians and poets to create melodies and lyrics full of emotion and harmony.
Thalia had the gift of comedy and poetry about rural life. With her cheerful and joyful spirit, she usually wore a comic mask and carried a shepherd's staff, showing off her love of comedy and country life.
Melpomene was the tragic actress among them. Wearing a tragic mask and holding a scepter, Melpomene inspired playwrights and actors to create and perform moving tragic plays.
Polymnia sang hymns and sacred songs. With her serious and calm style, she was often depicted with a veil, reinforcing her spiritual and religious nature.
Terpsichore loved dancing and the choir. With her joyful steps and the harmony of her movements, she held a lyre and inspired the dancers and choirs to create enchanting performances.
