Future Projections of Urban Climates

How will urban climates change in the future due to climate change and urbanization, and how will these changes affect the lives of urban residents? Our research investigates the future projections of urban climate and their effects on human society using datasets of future climates, as well as dynamically downscaling them using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. 

Our research is highly collaborative, bringing together a diverse range of expertise from within and beyond our lab. We work closely with researchers and public officials from around the world to share knowledge and insights, and we frequently host exchange students who are eager to learn more about the impacts of urban climate change in their home countries. As a result, our research is characterized by a high degree of internationalization, which is reflected in the scope and impact of our findings. 

Indeed, several of our studies, including Adachi et al. (2012), Doan et al. (2016), Hamdi et al. (2020), Kusaka et al. (2012a), Kusaka et al. (2001), Kusaka et al. (2016), and Kusaka et al. (2012b), have been cited in the IPCC's Assessment Reports. One example is Hamdi et al. (2020), a review paper that examines the characteristics and future challenges of urban climate models and observational data used in climate change research. This study has played an essential role in shaping the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report, and underscores the significance of our lab's research program.
