LEDs는 디스플레이, 자동차 전조등 및 조명, 가시광선 센서을 위한 광원 등에 관련된 많은 전자 산업에 쓰이고 있다. LED는 적은 전력 소모와, 반영구적인 수명 등과 같은 많은 이점을 가지고 있기 때문에, 차세대 광원으로서 연구가 많이 되고 있다. 비록 LED에 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있지만, 광출력 값을 높이기 위해 현재 많은 노력이 이루어지고 있다. LED의 출력값은 내부 효율, 전기적 효율, 등과 같은 요인으로 결정이 되며, NDSL에서는 이러한 요인들을 개선시키기 위해 연구하고 있다.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been attractive to many electronic industries related with display products, automobile lights, source for vilible/invisible light sensing and so on. Since the LED has many advantages such as low power consumtion and semi-permanent life-time, it has come into the spotlight as the next-generation light source. Although much research about LEDs has been made, efforts to improve the optical output power are still demanded for wider applicability of LEDs. Output power of LEDs is affected strongly by the wall-plug efficiency that is determined from the product of internal efficiency, electrical efficiency, and extraction efficiency. NDSL group is researching to improve the performance of LEDs.
