Tom Lane

Tom Lane was an English jockey who rode principally in France and enjoyed the unique distinction of having ridden six winners of the Grand Prix de Paris and three winners of the French Derby.

Tom made his debut as a steeplechase jockey in France, but for the last seventeen years of his career he had given up riding cross-country races, and had devoted himself solely to the Flat, riding for the stables of Baron Finot an M.Ephrussi. He also trained for several years. Owing to failing health he gave up riding altogether and became private trainer to Prince Murat.

Aged 40, Tom Lane died on Wednesday, July 17, 1901.
