Andrew Love

Final Coup and Andrew Love clear the last hurdle ahead of Risky Miss before going on to win the Lake Selling Hurdle at Nottingham on 15 November 1971.

Andrew James Love held a National Hunt jockey’s licence for eight seasons but rode just one winner during that time.

He had his first ride in public on Ice Maid in an ITV-televised handicap hurdle at Lingfield Park on Saturday, March 22, 1969, finishing tenth of the eleven runners. He rode Ice Maid three more times that season, their best effort being a fifth-place finish at Wye in May.

Andrew registered his sole success when riding 2-1 second favourite Final Coup to beat the 11-10 favourite Risky Miss in the seven-runner Lake Selling Hurdle at Nottingham on November 15, 1971. A picture of them jumping the last flight appeared on the front page of the next day’s Sporting Life. Final Coup was trained by Dennis Rayson at Exning, near Newmarket.

Andrew, whose parents ran a bed and breakfast business in Newmarket, continued to hold a licence until the 1975/76 season but had few opportunities and was unable to gain another success.
