Paul Anthony Liddle rode under National Hunt rules for a couple pf seasons in the 1980s and had one winner. A conditional jockey with Market Harborough trainer Michael Chapman, his first ride was at the rarified heights of Cheltenham on October 7, 1983, when the five-year-old Will Do Well finished unplaced in the Grunwick N.H. Flat Race.
His sole victory came at Nottingham on December 3, 1984, when Baton Match, trained by Michael Chapman, took the lead after the final flight and battled on to win the Kegworth Conditional Jockeys’ Selling Hurdle by three-quarters of a length. Paul had partnered the four-year-old on his two previous starts that season, finishing fourth once.
He had two more subsequent efforts on Baton Match, but after a fall in the second of them Jeff Barlow took over in the saddle. Paul’s final ride was at Nottingham on January 22, 1985, when unseated from Stargaze in the Stop Gap Novices’ Hurdle (Division 2).
