Alfred Francis Lemaire was born in Edgware Road, London, on April 19, 1859.
Weighing under 5 stone, he was often in demand to partner the lightweights and rode many winners. They included several major handicaps: the Stewards Cup, Wokingham, Ebor, Chester Cup, Ayr Gold Cup and Manchester November Handicap.
He also rode in France and Germany.
In 1893, Alfred met with a serious accident in Germany. He died in Austria the following August, aged 35.
