Cecil Longhurst

In 1912 apprentice Cecil Lewis Longhurst rode a seasonal best of 17 winners.

The following season he rode just seven winners from 64 rides.

He subsequently went to ride in South Africa. He returned to Britain and held a licence for two seasons in 1923 and 1924 but had very few rides and no winners.

Cecil wore the royal colours for the first time at the Bath & County Meeting on Wednesday 21 August, 1912. The King's horse, Pastel, was well supported in the market though the Cardiff owned Starboard light was favourite. Pastel got away badly and Cecil was beaten a length.

His two biggest wins were both gained in 1912: the Queen's Prize on Duke of Sparta II, and the Manchester Cup on Donnithorne.
