Thomas Richard Leader was born on October 24, 1879 and was the oldest son of 'Old' Tom Leader who trained George Frederick to win the Derby.
He became a NH jockey and won the 1904 Scottish Grand National on Innismacsaint.
Thomas began training whilst still a young man: he sent out Sprig - ridden by his son Ted - to win the 1927 National. Later, in 1929, he trained Gregalach to win the same race.
Thomas was a licensed preacher and an active Freemason.
He had three brothers who all also trained: Frank, Colledge and Harvey, who won the 1926 National with Jack Horner.
Thomas died on June 24 1945, aged 66. He left £11,988.
