By following a case study-based approach on research and analysis, I have learnt about the significance of certain important parameters in swimming (like stroke rate and stroke count), how to measure them, their impact on swimming speed and how swimmers like me can improve. I have learnt creative ways of communicating my learning with swimmers through a video.
I have created and published a video on YouTube that is educational and informative targeted for swimmers at any level. It focuses on a certain important technical aspect, goes through a complete detailed research case study exemplifying it, and ends with a ‘call to action’ for swimmers on what they can do to improve.
Srishti's Personal Project Product
I decided to go with a personal project related to swimming as it is something I've been pursuing competitively for the last 6 years. My goal was dual purpose. Firstly, to create an educational product that can help impart certain niche and intricate technical aspects about swimming in layman terms for the benefit of all swimmers. Secondly to also take it upon myself and bring in those changes into my swimming. The project work gave me an opportunity to create something of my own. The entire process of writing a process journal, discussion and communication about the product with the supervisors helped bring in necessary discipline and a lot of thought clarity.
My research and critical analysis skills developed as the product progressed. My ability to introspect has improved. Since this is an educational product and a medium where the product should be self-explanatory and I will not get a second chance to explain myself, I had to revisit, reflect, replay the entire story innumerable times. Overall, while following this process, I learnt many values and life skills, namely, to research, analyze, introspect, empathize and try to be creative in communicating and expressing my ideas to others.
