Through my MYP Personal Project, I created a women’s empowerment non-profit, Incuba-Naari. I’ve always been passionate about gender equality, and as a student of the StartupYou program, I was exposed to the world of entrepreneurship: where I learned how organisations can create social transformation. These interests collided through Incuba-Naari.
Early in this journey, I hypothesized that encouraging women’s entrepreneurship at the grassroots level could unlock Indian women’s financial independence. In order to validate this hypothesis, I conducted an research survey with 20 local Indian women small-business owners and created a networking website. Over the next months I developed my communication, collaboration, organisation, and media literacy skills as I scouted, interviewed, and constructed articles to promote local small businesses while keeping to the strict time-frames I set for myself.
I created a women’s empowerment non-profit, Incuba-Naari a networking site for women . I developed my communication, collaboration, organisation, and media literacy skills as I scouted, interviewed, and constructed articles to promote local small businesses while keeping to the strict time-frames I set for myself. Most importantly, I was able to practice empathy in action, and give back to my community.
Today, Incuba-Naari has created a total community of over 300 individuals. We are in the process of navigating a brand-partnership with two start-ups (once being a digital marketplace for small business products). The more than 20 businesses that I promoted had a profound impact on this community, as showcased in my video above.
While I am proud of what I was able to achieve in these six months, my journey with Incuba-Naari is far from over. Personal project has truly made me a more confident individual, and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity that it has given me to make an impact on my community!
