Over the course of my Personal Project process, I learnt a lot in terms of music, techniques, skill and experience. I learnt about the process of song-making; the aspects of writing the lyrics, making the melody, composing the music, tying all the elements together so that they work together well and singing the lyrics in a way that communicates the essence of the song.
I have developed a mini album that consists of 3 songs about different global issues (Climate change, World Hunger and Rape). The songs have lyrics, vocals and music that attempts to convey the issue in an urgent and touching yet poetic manner.
My Personal Project was fuelled by my passion for music and my desire of pursuing it further. I saw Personal Project as an opportunity to pursue my passion and explore the art. I’ve been learning guitar for the past 3 years and music theory & singing for the past year. I was always really interested in the process of making songs, melodies, singing, writing lyrics and making music. The Personal Project provided me with an opportunity to explore song-writing, music production and improve my singing. I learnt a lot from each song and each mistake I made while creating the 3 songs. There were many aspects of it that I didn’t know about until I started making songs myself.
Throughout the entire process I was always learning something new, developing some skill, trying something different and always improving myself. Skills like Thinking and Communication really came in handy during the project. Applying critical thinking to develop my skills and keep learning, using creative thinking to make melodies, music, write lyrics, and so on. Feedback was a huge part of my process as it helped me look at my work from an expert's perspective as well as a listener’s perspective. It helped me understand what to develop, how to make my melodies work well with my lyrics, how to effectively use drums, how to trigger the listener’s emotions while listening to the song, etc. The process was very enriching and experiential for me, it taught me a great deal and made me realise how much I enjoyed making music.
