Over the course of my project, I learned about color blindness, first through secondary and then primary research. While doing primary research, I learned how to frame questions, conduct interviews, and communicate with people. I also acquired knowledge on how to design a game using a wireframe .
I have developed a wireframe (a blueprint) for a game that will help screen for color blindness in children.
My grandfather’s colorblindness was detected only at the age of 27 years, by when he had already finished his Engineering. Certain jobs in his field of engineering were not open to him because of his colorblindness - this limited his employment opportunities despite his hard work. This triggered my interest in colorblindness and the problems faced by people who are colorblind. I used my personal project as an opportunity and decided to design a game that can help screen for colorblindness in children in a non-intrusive way.
One of the most important skills I learned during the course of my project was Communication. Through the interviews I conducted with doctors and colorblind people, I learned how to adapt my method of communication based on the profile of my interviewees. The entire experience of working on this project contributed towards my IB learner profile of being Caring, intending to make our society more inclusive for school-going children whose color blindness is not yet detected, I created a wireframe to screen color blindness using gaming.
