Business

This skill involves knowledge of business planning, bureaucracy, and markets. You use it to play the stock market, determine the fair value of goods, locate marketplaces, and navigate corporate or government red tape.

You can also use Business to hinder someone else's attempt to navigate a bureaucracy (using it as the DC against their Business checks)

Most large organizations have some type of bureaucracy that you may eventually be called upon to interact with. This skill allows you to identify the appropriate administrative channels to contact in a given situation, the proper procedures to follow, and the best way to cut through red tape.

APPRAISE ⬤ ◌ ◌

Spend 1 action to make a Business check to determine the value of a common item or service.

Critical Success: You determine the exact mundane value, and you can identify if an object has magical or otherwise unusual properties.Success: You determine the accurate mundane value of the object or service.Failure: You guess the mundane value. Your guess is within 20% of the actual value.Critical Failure: You completely misidentify the object or service and its value.

GATHER INFORMATION (1 Hour)

You canvass local markets, restaurants, and business networks to learn about a specific individual or topic related to the local economy. The GM determines the DC and exact time required, and may grant circumstance bonuses for spending Wealth on bribes, drinks, or gifts.

Success: You collect useful information about the individual or topic. The GM determines the specific information you collect.Critical Failure: You collect incorrect, misleading information.

MARKETING (1 Day)

You can use the Marketing action to attempt to coerce an organization or bureaucracy into acting as you'd like. Spend 1 day developing and executing a marketing campaign, then make a Business check. A successful check can help you to get answers from a bureaucratic organization quickly, or allow you to bypass some red tape and get results sooner. The DC of this check depends on the size of the business or bureaucracy in question and how soon you need results.

You can also use the Marketing skill to hinder someone else's attempt to gain information from or influence a bureaucracy. In these cases, you make opposed Business checks, modified by the level of delay you wish to impose, and use that set the DC of Marketing your opponent has to achieve.

Critical Success: The target organization agrees to your request without qualifications.Success: The target organization agrees to your request, but they might demand added provisions or alterations to the request.Failure: The target organization refuses the request, though they might propose an alternative that is less extreme.Critical Failure: Not only does the target refuse the request, but their attitude toward you decreases by one step due to the temerity of the request.

MANAGEMENT (10 Minutes)

Through your understanding of business hierarchy, you attempt to improve the attitude of a specific bureaucrat or small department. Spend 10 minutes to make a Business check against the target's Resolve Defense.

Critical Success: The target’s attitude toward you improves by two steps.Success: The target’s attitude toward you improves by one step.Critical Failure: The target’s attitude toward you decreases by one step.
