This skill involves basic knowledge of business planning. Skill checks are required when you want to play the stock market, apply your business know-how to a trade, determine the value of goods, locate a marketplace, or calculate the local fair market value of a good or service.
Most large organizations have some type of bureaucracy that you may eventually be called upon to interact with. This skill allows you to identify the proper administrative channels to contact in a particular situation, the proper procedures to follow, and the best way to cut through the red tape.
The Business skill can be used in an attempt to change the attitude of an individual employee or department. A successful check can help you to get answers from a bureaucratic organization quickly, or allow you to bypass some red tape and get results sooner.
The DC of this check depends on the size of the business or bureaucracy in question, and how soon you need results.
You can also use the Business skill to hinder someone else's attempt to gain information or influence a bureaucracy. In these cases, you make opposed Administration checks, modified by the level of delay you wish to impose.
An appraise check determines the value of a common item or service.
Critical Success You can determine if an object has magical or otherwise unusual propertiesSuccess You determine the mundane value of the object or service Failure You guess the mundane value of the object or service. Your guess is within 20% of the actual value of the item.Critical Failure You completely misidentify an object or service and its value.You canvass local markets and restaurants, and peruse local business magazines in an attempt to learn about a specific individual or topic related to the local economy. The GM determines the DC of the check and the amount of time it takes (typically 1 hour, but sometimes more), along with any benefit you might be able to gain by spending coin on bribes, drinks, or gifts.
