This skill represents your powers of observation, perception and intuition. Usually, this skill is used to determine if you notice something that stands out in a particular scene.
Usually, this skill is reactive in nature. Noticing something with awareness could be as simple as providing a hint that you missed a normal course of action. It can also provide help if you are completely lost or confused in regards to your next steps. Actively searching for something makes use of the Investigation skill instead.
Sometimes, Awareness will be rolled in lieu of a standard Initiative Check.
Your Passive Awareness is equal to 10+ your Awareness Modifier.
Intuition represents your natural instincts. It includes your ability to sense danger when no obvious signs are evident, avoid surprises, and make leaps of logic. It's your ability to make a best guess in a given situation.
Should you want to make an intuitive "Best Guess," you can make an Intuition Check. You can only make an Intuition Check once per scene.
Success You gain insight into the situation, and what the best course of action is.Failure You're at a loss for your next actionCritical Failure Your gut leads you completely off track. As a single action, you can use Awareness to recognize that a creature has changed its appearance. Sometimes, if you are being particularly alert for those in the area who might be in disguise, the GM might allow you to do this as a Free Action. This check is against a Deception Check made by the disguised creature. If you succeed, you realize the creature is disguised and not who it seems, but not necessarily who or what the disguised creature is beneath that disguise. If the disguised creature is impersonating a particular individual that you know, the GM might grant you a bonus to your Perception check.
Perception is also used to notice fine details in the environment. The DC to notice such details varies depending upon distance, the environment, and how noticeable the detail is.
Perception is also used to negate an opponent's Stealth check. If you are successful, you notice the opponent and can react accordingly. If you fail, your opponent can take a variety of actions, including sneaking past you and attacking you.
