The Sphere of Artifice includes spells that control machines and modern technology.
Focus: A smartphone, a tablet computer, a smartwatch, a pocket watch.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: Instantaneous
Target: 1 hard drive or other device storing data
By touching a single device that contains electronic files, such as a computer, external hard drive, CD-ROM, or magnetic disk, you erase all files on that device. The device is rendered empty of data.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Reaction
Duration: 1 Minute
Target: 1 computer
If you trigger countermeasures on a computer, you can use this spell as a reaction temporarily flood the device with Anima to stall those countermeasures. All countermeasures are delayed until the end of the spell's duration, at which point all the countermeasures you triggered will be executed.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Minute
Target: 1 electronic object of 7 bulk or less
You cause a single device to behave randomly and erratically, defying any attempts to bring it under control.
Cash registers display random prices and open their money drawers repeatedly. Escalators surge forward, then reverse themselves. Automatic teller machines flash random patrons’ account balances on the screen as they spew forth receipts (not money, though). Vending machines begin violently hurling forth their contents.
It’s impossible to describe the exact effects of haywire on every modern device. In general, a machine subject to haywire functions as if someone were pressing random buttons or otherwise manipulating it randomly.
Turning off a device subject to a haywire spell doesn’t work, because the spell disables the “off” switch. Cutting off the power supply (by unplugging it, for example) disables the device 1d4 rounds later, ending the spell.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Minute
Duration: 1 Hour
Target: 1 willing creature
You create a holographic lifting frame around the target to subtly reinforce the target’s musculature and posture. For the duration, The target can carry 3 more Bulk than normal before becoming encumbered and up to a maximum of 6 more Bulk.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Minute
Duration: Instantaneous
Target: non-magical object of light Bulk or less
You repair the target item.
Variable Spell: The spell can be cast at the following levels:
1st: You restore 5 Hit Points per spell level to the target, potentially removing the broken condition if this repairs it past the item's Broken Threshold. You can't replace lost pieces or repair an object that's been completely destroyed.
2nd: You can target a non-magical object of 1 Bulk or less.
3rd: You can target a non-magical object of 2 Bulk or less, or a magical object of 1 Bulk or less.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Scene
Target: One lock or device protected by a password
Any locked device usually has lingering about it metaphysical patterns of the key needed to open it. You can use a Artifice spell attack check against the DC of the lock or security system. If successful, the lock pops open, or any electronic barriers disappear--passwords automatically fill in, voice prints recognize the caster as an authorized user, and any captchas are thwarted.
After the scene ends, locks re-shutter, and the caster's access to any electronic device is revoked.
Range: Close
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Scene
Target: One object with an operating system
You gain a +3 insight bonus to Disable Device, Manipulation, and Technical Science checks involving the item.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Scene
Target: One electronic item powered by a battery
This spell provides power to an electrical or mechanical device that does not have a power source but is otherwise functional.
The device functions exactly as it normally would if it had conventional power.
This spell can affect any household or handheld device, scratch-built robot, or general-purpose vehicle. Larger or more intricate devices cannot be powered with this spell.
Range: Close
Rote Casting: 3 Actions
Duration: Instantaneous
Target: Up to 200 objects in range, each of Light bulk or less.
You magically sort a group of objects into neat stacks or piles. You can sort the objects in two different ways. The first option is to separate them into different piles depending on an easily observed factor, such as colour or shape. Alternatively, you can sort the objects into ordered stacks depending on a clearly indicated notation, such as a page number, title, or date.
Heighten Spell: For every 2 levels you heighten this spell, increase the total number of objects you can sort by 200.
Range: 10 Range
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 Minutes
Target: 1 vehicle within range
A holographic duplicate of the target’s controls appears within your reach. If the target has no controls, the spell fails. As part of concentrating on this spell, you (and only you) can use these controls to operate the target as if you were able to touch its actual controls. The spell ends if the target moves out of range.he target can carry 3 more Bulk than normal before becoming encumbered and up to a maximum of 6 more Bulk.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Minute
Duration: Instantaneous
Target: 1 piece of clothing currently worn by you or an ally
You permanently change the appearance of one piece of clothing currently worn by you or an ally to better fit your aesthetic sensibilities. You can change its color, texture, pattern, and other minor parts of its design, but the changes can't alter the clothing's overall shape, size, or purpose. The changes can't increase the quality of the craftsmanship or artistry of the piece of clothing, but particularly gauche choices for the new color and pattern might decrease its aesthetic appeal. This spell transforms existing materials into the desired appearance and never alters the material or creates more material than what's originally part of the object. The object's statistics also remain unchanged.
Range: Self
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Scene
Target: All electronic objects in Close range
You surround yourself with a bubble of low-level electromagnetic radiation, not enough to be detected by normal individuals but sufficient to defeat most electronic transmissions (like cellular data and wifi). Hardwired effects such as cable TV or landline phones, or self-contained devices such as video cameras are unaffected by this power. Those using the affected devices get scrambled signals and white noise, and are aware that they are being jammed.
Heightened (2nd): Your white noise grows in intensity, and is now able to jam devices that rely on hard-wired transmissions, including televisions, monitors, and most security systems. In addition, photographic film fogs and magnetic tapes blur.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: Permanent
Target: 1 data-storing device
Defence: Willpower
You can alter some or all of the data on a CD, DVD, USB stick, cell phone, computer hard drive, or similar storage dive so that it appears to be some other kind of data. For example, you can alter the phone numbers of contacts in a cellphone, or make a surveillance cassette play a B-movie.
Anyone who interacts with the altered media can make a Willpower check against a DC equal to 10+your ranks in Artifice+your Int modifier to pierce the illusion.
Range: 10 Range
Rote Casting: 1 Minute
Duration: 10 Minutes
Target: Close-range emination
All mechanical or electronic intrusion alarms and alarm sensors in the affected area momentarily glitch out and fail to function for the duration of the spell. Burglar alarms or other intrusion alarms within the affected area simply fail to function; sensors for intrusion alarm systems (such as motion detectors, IR detectors, pressure sensors, electric eyes, and so forth) also fail to function, sending no signal to monitoring stations. Video surveillance devices continue to send whatever image they were photographing the moment when the spell was cast.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: Concentration
Target: 1 object with machine-readable data
You run your finger over any machine-readable data source (a barcode, a computer disk, a CD, magnetic tape, or any similar record) to understand the content of the data. You experience the data as it would normally be experienced through an appropriate machine. For example, if reading a music CD, you hear the music in your head. If reading a word processor file, you visualize and read an image of the page. If reading a barcode, you see the serial number, pricing information, or other barcoded data.
The amount of time required to experience the data is the same as that required to read it by conventional means. You can normally read 2 pages of documents in 1 minute. This spell does not decode encrypted data. Without the encryption code, an encrypted document or file appears as a seemingly random string of characters. If you know the encryption code, however, you can read encrypted data normally with this spell.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 10 Minutes
Target: 1 non-magical object in your possession of 1 Bulk or less
You touch an object, and it immediately disassembles itself into its component pieces. The spell fails if the target lacks component pieces (such as a statue carved from one block of stone), and using it on a dangerous object like a snare or trap typically triggers it. The object gains the broken condition, and the component pieces become small enough to be hidden under normal clothing. You can Dismiss the spell as a single action.
When the spell ends, the object reassembles itself into its original form, appearing in your hand or hands if you have them free, or on the ground in front of you otherwise. Once reassembled, the object loses the broken condition and its Hit Points return to the value the object had when you cast Dismantle.
Heighten Spell: For every 1 level you heighten the spell by, the duration increases by 10 Minutes.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Hour
Target: 1 computer
You subtly rearrange the internal circuitry of a computer system or module, programming it to convey a certain dataset when accessed (either normally or if it is hacked). You can implant up to one piece of data per rank in the Sphere of Arifice. A piece of data consists of a simple fact, such as a creature or object’s location or physical description, a creature or object’s tangible or intangible value, or another simple statement. When an affected computer system or module is accessed, this implanted data is the first data the accessing individual gains, regardless of what data the individual is actually looking for, though the accessing individual can access the system or module’s actual information if it looks beyond the implanted data. The implanted data vanishes from the system or module once the accessing individual has reviewed it. If this spell’s duration ends before an individual accesses the implanted data, the implanted data vanishes.

Target: 1 door, lock, or container
You make the target easier to open. Knock grants a +4 status bonus to any creature that tries to open the target door, lock, or container with an Athletics or a Manipulation check.
Knock Counters Lock.
Range: 3 Range
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 10 Minutes
Target: Close-range Spread
Defence: basic Dodge
This spell creates a net of dangerous lasers between two solid points. The grid can appear only if there are appropriate anchoring surfaces at both ends of the beams, such as two walls, a wall and a ceiling, or the like. Otherwise, the spell fails.
Creatures that move through the laser grid must succeed at a Dodge check take 1d6+1 fire damage per move action they take. Creatures that take only guarded steps laser grid receive a +2 circumstance bonus to this check, but creatures that run, charge, or withdraw through the grid take a –2 penalty to the saving throw.
Range: Unlimited
Rote Casting: 3 Actions
Duration: Instantaneous
Target: An electronic device belonging to a creature you know
You cause a text message of up to 140 characters to appear on the screen of an electronic device capable of receiving such messages, such as a smartphone, tablet, smartwatch, or computer. If the device is turned on, the message appears instantly; if not, the message appears as soon as someone turns it on. The message remains onscreen until read, then disappears, leaving no electronic record of its appearance. You must have seen the device to send a message to it.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Scene
Target: 1 creature or object
The target and its gear cannot be detected by security cameras, motion detectors, infrared sensors, or other technological devices, and it is invisible to constructs with the technological subtype. The target is missing from technological images captured while the spell lasts, security cameras do not display the target, microphones pick up no sounds the target makes, and the target cannot trigger technological traps. This spell creates disadvantages for the target, as well. Talking on a phone or via a comms unit is impossible while subjected to this spell, and automatic doors do not open for the target.
Items dropped, put down, or thrown by the target become visible to technology. Items picked up disappear if tucked into clothing or a bag carried by the target. Light remains visible to technology, but a source of light might be invisible. If any part of an item the target carries extends more than 10 feet from the target, that part becomes visible to technology. This spell ends under the same circumstances as an invisibility spell.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Day
Target: 1 hard drive or other electronic storage medium
You magically remove data from the target computer or storage medium. You can end the spell with a swift action, restoring the missing data. Each day, when you regain your spell slots, you can expend 1 daily rote cast to keep the data hidden for another day. If you choose not to consume a rote cast, the data returns.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Round
Duration: 1 Hour
Target: 1 vehicle
You install an basic AI into a vehicle that can control the vehicle in place of an actual pilot. During the spell's duration, you can engage or disengage the autopilot AI as a single action. You can input a destination into the autopilot AI as a move action, and the autopilot AI attempts to reach that location if doing so is possible.
The vehicle is considered controlled when the autopilot AI is engaged. The autopilot AI's actions are dictated by the GM, and the autopilot AI can take any of the actions to pilot a vehicle that an actual pilot can. The autopilot AI has a Drive modifier of 10+your Artifice modifier.

Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 Minute
You conjure a blast door up to 5 feet thick that blocks a hallway no more than 20 feet wide and 20 feet high. If the door would not completely block the targeted hallway, you can’t cast this spell. Any creature in the area where the door appears is harmlessly shunted to a side of the door you choose. The blast door is made of solid steel. It is airtight, and it protects against vacuum, radiation and water, and blocks all teleportation effects. When the spell ends, the door vanishes without a trace.

Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Scene
Target: Close-range emination
All electrical devices within the spell’s area—lights, computers, cell phones, digital watches, and so forth—do not function for the duration of the spell. The spell does not prevent devices outside of the area of effect from operating normally, even if they are on the same electrical circuit as those affected. (Even if the spell is cast on a generator supplying power to devices outside the area of effect, those outside devices continue to remain powered.) At the end of the spell’s duration, the devices operate again as if their operation had not been interrupted. (Computers do not need to be restarted, and clocks display the correct time.)
Many sophisticated mechanical devices, including automobiles and aircraft, rely on electrical components, and so are usually affected by this spell. Sapient beings that rely on electricity to function—such as robots, AIs, and daemons—are unaffected by this spell.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 3 Actions
Duration: Instantaneous
Target: 1 willing creature for every 2 ranks in Artifice, all of whom must be in Close range when you cast the spell.
You and any creatures targeted by the spell teleport instantly to the location of a telephone you call. The telephone must be answered; the spell only works over an open line. You arrive adjacent to the device, and any other creatures transported by the spell appear next to you.
For example, you might use a cell phone to call a landline at your home. As soon as anyone answers the phone (including an answering machine), you could use the spell to teleport home.
Range: Touch
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: Instantaneous
Target: 1 willing creature for every 2 ranks in Artifice, all of whom must be in Close range when you cast the spell.
With the aid of instant messaging apps, you physically transport the subject or subjects from one place to another.
At least one of the creatures affected must be touching a computer, cellphone, or another device with an Internet connection and an active instant messaging app. The targets will be sent to an active contact on that app, as chosen by the caster. Face-to-face connection causes the targets to appear around the device the contact is active on, automatically gaining surprise on anyone else in that room.
Range: Close
Rote Casting: 1 Action
Duration: 1 Minute
Target: 1 communication device
You can create false images or sounds on an electronic device. The spell affects those that are watching or listening to the device at the time of the spell's casting. Recordings of the signal feed will show distortion, as well as the “real” image. Other spells may not be used through a signal feed.
