There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Then are dreamt of in your philosophy
-William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Your Origin represents where your character obtained their powers from. Origins are a combination of "classes" and "races" from other games, representing a broad archetype of classic monsters and other staples of modern fantasy.
Below are the core Origins for Secret Wars. Your Origin unlocks feats, skills, and other abilities specific to that Origin, and helps determine your starting stats.
Normally, you cannot change your Origin without your character undergoing a significant change, such as a human becoming infected with lycanthropy, or a fey being twisted into a horror by a dark curse. When your Origin changes, you loose access to all your original Origin-related feats, skills and abilities, and their Experience costs are refunded.
Secret Wars has the following origins:
The ancient, nearly immortal dragons are creatures of vast intelligence, wisdom, and arcane power. Dragons have slowly recovered from their near extinction during the Middle Ages, but they still lack the power, or unity, to challenge the new world order, and thus begrudgingly hide their majesty behind the Veil.
Dragon Legacies: Quetzalcoatl, Ryu, Salamander, Sedna, Zahhak
The children of passion and life, fey embody various stories, myths, and dreams, and often seem to be something of a throwback to an earlier age of knightly virtues and great quests, of courtly intrigue and mighty heroes. Though the term fey typically brings to mind creatures such as pixies, sprites, nymphs and dryads, the children of Faerie are incredibly diverse, and include creatures such as phoenixes, kirin, unicorns, hags, pegasi, jotun, and even dwarves.
Fey Kindreds: Dwarves, Pooka, Satyr, Sidhe, Trolls
The spawn of the Pit and the incarnations of terror itself, horrors are the cause of many of the strange and unique monstrosities that plague humanity's legends. Horrors have popped up countless times through humanity's history, appearing as creatures as diverse as the Black Dog of English myth, yeti of the Himalayas, and monstrous sea serpents.
Horror Houses: Dark City (technology), Fanged Forest (wilds), Hateful Sun (light and power), Nightmare Lantern, (darkness) Obsidian Sands (fire)
The dominant race on Earth, humanity drives our world's cultures, societies, nations, and history. The vast majority of humanity is unaware of the supernatural world thanks to the Veil, but there are always those who slip through and awaken to the truth.
The jinn are creatures of spirit and power, formed from the elemental building blocks of the multiverse. There are many kingdoms of jinn, each associated with an elemental force, from the Empire of the ifrit in the heart of Fire to the coral kingdom of the marid, to the mountain kingdom of the gnomes, and the forested realms of the nasnas.
Jinn Castes: Gnomes, Ifrit, Marid, Sylphs
Mages are known by countless titles around the world: wizards, witches, sorcerers, shamans, alchemists, magicians, druids, wu, sha'ir, and vudun, and more. Mages are humans who, through blood, pact or study, have learnt to wield magic.
Mage Traditions: Hermetic Mage, Mesmer, Necromancer, Nethermancer, Shaman
Called seers, oracles, or mystics in various traditions, Mediums are humans who have become bonded to a spirit, serving as a living bridge between the spirit and mortal worlds.
Also known as werebeasts, therianthropes, or beastfolk, shifters are mortal beings with the spirits of both man and beast, and have coexisted with humans since prehistoric times. Besides werewolves, there are dozens of other shifter bloodlines, from neizumi to nagual to bultungin to kitsune to weretigers.
Shifter Tribes: Bersarkir, Kitsune, Nagual, Nezumi, Werewolves
Strange are the descendants of humans and supernatural creatures. Born with one foot in the mortal world, and one claw in the supernatural one, they often struggle to find a place in either.
Strange Ancestries: Cambion, Dhampirs, Feytouched, Mares
Undead who survive off of blood, humours, or other vital fluilds. Because of the great reserves of anima in blood, vampires appear the most lifelike of any undead, presuming they're kept well-fed; the power within blood is also responsible for a great deal of the mythical powers attributed to vampires, as mental domination, regeneration, and shapeshifting are all within the purview of blood magic.
Vampire Bloodlines: Alukah, Jiangshi, Strigoi, Valravn, Vetala
