This skill represents your powers of observation, perception and intuition.
Usually, this skill is reactive. Noticing something with awareness could be as simple as providing a hint that you missed a normal course of action. It can also provide help if you are completely lost or confused regarding your next steps. Actively searching for something instead uses the Investigate skill.
Awareness is the primary skill used for Initiative rolls, as it represents how quickly you can respond to a surprise encounter.
Your Passive Awareness Defense is equal to 10 + your Awareness Proficiency Bonus + your Cunning Modifier + any feat bonuses.
Intuition represents your natural instincts—your ability to sense danger, avoid surprises or make leaps of logic when no obvious clues are present. Once per Scene, you can spend 1 Minute assessing a situation to make an Awareness check (DC set by the GM).
Success: You gain a "best guess" insight into the situation or the best immediate course of action.Failure: You're at a loss for your next actionCritical Failure: Your gut leads you completely off track, providing dangerously misleading instincts. You can spend 3 actions to make an Awareness Check against a target's Deception Check to scrutinize them and discern whether they have changed their appearance. If the disguised creature is impersonating a particular individual that you know, the GM might grant you a bonus to your Perception check.
Success: You realize the creature is disguised, though you do not necessarily know who or what is beneath the disguise. You react to a subtle detail in your environment, or attempt to spot a Hidden or Undetected creature. The DC to notice such details varies depending on distance, the environment, and how noticeable the detail is.
Notice is also used to negate an opponent's Stealth check. The GM typically rolls this in secret against the opponent's Stealth DC.
Success: You notice the detail, or you successfully spot the opponent, stripping them of their Hidden or Undetected status and making them Observed.Failure: You fail to notice the threat.
