External USB Select Powered drives listed here use the USB connector for data and power. These work well for data but not as pi boot/external drives as they take way to long to spin up, and usually have slower data transfer than drives that use a wall plug. Also they pull amps from pi so again not good for those. They do work well for game consoles external storage.
