Sparta Glen Fall Fun Day a Success!

Beautiful autumn weather was the backdrop for this past weekend's (10/21) Sparta Glen Fall Fun Day community event hosted by North Jersey Trout Unlimited and the SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group to celebrate last year’s highly successful restoration of the Glen Brook.

A highlight of the day was the dedication ceremony offered by Sparta Township. Sparta's mayor Gil Gibbs and deputy mayor Josh Hertzberg expressed the community's appreciation and gratitude to North Jersey Trout Unlimited, and presented a bronze plaque that will be permanently installed at the Glen. A second wooden plaque was presented to the chapter in appreciation of the many volunteers (and particularly John Nordstedt) for their efforts in the restoration of the Sparta Glen Brook.

Attendees enjoyed themselves as they learned about the stream restoration project, observed live aquatic insects, hiked the trails, participated in the Kids’ Corner crafts and games, watched flies being tied by chapter members, and visited information tables hosted by the Wallkill River Watershed Management Group, NJ Fish & Wildlife, Sparta Historical Society, and NJ Highlands Coalition.

Countless volunteers and partners helped make the day a success including:

North Jersey Trout Unlimited

SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group

Sparta Township

NJ Trout Unlimited State Council

NJ Fish and Wildlife

AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador Program

NJ Highlands Coalition

Sparta Historical Society

Sparta Kiwanis

Sparta Middle School Builders Club

Sparta Ambulance

We look forward to hosting more events in the future that share the wonderful conservation work being done by our chapter, and that highlight the Sparta Glen!
