Trout in the Classroom

Trout In the Classroom (TIC) provides students from K-12 a perspective of our environment by raising trout from eggs. The teacher adapts the program to complement classes in science, social studies, and mathematics. Students learn about the environment by monitoring water quality, studying stream habitat, and increase awareness of water resources. The school year ends by releasing trout in a nearby watershed or a state-approved stream. There are over 125 participating schools in New Jersey and 22 in the North Jersey Chapter area!

October 18, 2022 is Egg Day! Volunteer to deliver trout eggs to one or more of our 22 TIC schools in Morris, Warren, and Sussex counties. Meet at the Pequest Hatchery to pick up your trout eggs and trout food. Bring a small cooler to keep the eggs cool, some ice or ice pack, and a small towel to keep the ice away from the eggs so they do not freeze.
