Each year in February and March the Fred S. Burroughs North Jersey Chapter of Trout Unlimited hosts a Fly Tying Class for Beginner and Intermediate students.
The class lasts seven (7) weeks and is held at 7 p.m. at Sparta VFW. The dates are 2/7/23 - 3/21/23.
The cost is $75 for all seven (7) classes.
The Beginner class is limited to twenty (20) students. Children under the age of sixteen (16) must be accompanied by a parent. The Chapter provides all of the materials, tools, and vices for use during the class. The class covers all of the basics of fly tying. We focus on teaching proper techniques. At the end of the class you will be able to tie any recipe for any fly! We teach theses proper techniques and help students avoid developing ‘bad habits.’ On the first class we go over the basics of fly fishing and fly tying and tie our first fly. The balance of the classes we tie three (3) flies per night. The class covers all types of flies from nymphs, streamers, dry flies, steelhead flies and wet flies. During the class you will learn a lot and have a lot of fun! If you are interested please call Sue Reed at (201) 207-0928. Once you have confirmed your spot in class, you can pay for the class with the PayPal link above. All beginner's students will receive their own fly tying tool kit to keep!
The Intermediate class is limited to ten (10) students. For the Intermediate class you must bring your own vice, tools, and materials. Special materials for special flies will be provided by the lead tier. The class is taught by Chapter Member Ed Cabral with the addition of periodic guest teachers. New flies, new materials, and new techniques are explored during the classes. If you are interested in the Intermediate Fly Tying Class please email info@nnjtu.org.
As always, join us for a beer after class at the Sparta VFW bar.
