About Tim: Fishing has always been a big part of Sam's life, whether it's getting out on the boat off the Jersey coast to target Mahi Mahi and Striped bass, in a canoe with his fishing dog TJ, or exploring Adirondack mountain streams for Brook Trout. From the moment he caught his first trout from the Flatbrook on a self tied sulphur dry fly he was hooked. Highschool accelerated Sam's fly fishing abilities where he was enrolled in natural resources and outdoor recreation classes. These classes included learning about macroinvertebrates and visiting the river daily. The class has a yearly fly fishing trip to the Adirondacks where he fished several rivers including the Ausable, Saranac, and St. Regis.
In college, Sam was in the Trout Bums fly fishing club at SUNY ESF in Syracuse where he earned a B.S. Environmental Science with a focus in sustainable energy. Being close to the Salmon river he enjoyed catching salmon and steelhead on quick trips after classes. On spring breaks it was south bound to the Florida keys to fish for bonefish and tarpon.
TJ stands for Trout Junky and that's exactly what Sam's dog is. TJ’s first time fishing as a pup he fell asleep in the net to see how the trout feel. He loves making new friends on the river and giving each trout an inspection sniff. Streamside naps are great to save energy for when Sam calls out “TJ fish,” then the excitement is on.
