FLY FISHING
THE RANGELEY LAKES REGION
OF WESTERN MAINE
Bob Romano and his wife, Trish, have owned a camp in the Rangeley Lakes Region of Western Maine for nearly forty years. During that time, he’s written a number of books set in this part of the country where the native brook trout remain as large as any you’ll find south of Labrador and the landlocked salmon continue to dance across the pools and runs of iconic rivers such as the Magalloway, Kennebago, and Rapid.
Although many travel to the Rangeley Lakes Region for the thrill of hooking a fish measured in pounds rather than inches, there is also an infinity of smaller trout to be found in the headwater streams.
Nicknamed, THE LAND OF FISHING LEGIONS, the region has a rich sporting tradition. Not much has changed since Carrie Stevens tied her Gray Ghost streamer, Shang Wheeler came up with the legend of White Nose Pete, and Louise Dickinson Rich wrote her books about life along the carry road below Middle Dam.
Bob has added all new photos for this year’s program. As in the past, he’ll cover where and when to fish, what flies to cast, and techniques to use. As entertaining as he is informative, Bob will take you along with him on a tour of the lakes, rivers, and streams that comprise the Rangeley Lakes Region.
Many outdoor writers concentrate on the “how-to” aspects of fly-fishing. Bob prefers to examine why we fish while using the rivers, lakes, and streams of Maine’s Great North Woods as his literary canvas. Whether novice or expert, young or old, if you’ve fished, or ever wished to fish, in country as wild as the moose that continue to trod its trails, you’ll enjoy Bob’s books.
Legendary Master Maine guide and author, George Smith said, “You will really enjoy THE RIVER KING, as soon as you finish it, you’ll plan a fishing adventure in the Rangeley Region.”
“Lyrical, poignant, and sometimes fantastical angling tales from the Maine woods and beyond. Bob Romano’s RIVER FLOWERS is written in the great storytelling tradition of Sparse Gray Hackle and Robert Traver.”—Stephen Sautner, author of A Cast in the Woods and Fish On, fish Off.
