The Fall Brings Out the Best in Us

Post date: Nov 3, 2014 3:09:44 PM

The fall brings out the best in us. On October 9, four members of our chapter led by Tony Guarino float stocked the fly stretch in the Flatbrook. On October 15, TIC Coordinator Willi Huber and his group of ten volunteers distributed rainbow trout eggs to twenty-three TIC schools in our area.

Speaking about Willi, he competed in the State Council’s Fisherman of the Year Contest on November 1 at the Raritan Inn on the South Branch. I am happy to report that he qualified for the “fish off “ round. Willi thanks Darren and Warren for their coaching throughout the contest. ‘Fast Freddy” from Ridge and Valley ultimately won the contest, for a second straight year.

I am hoping for a “walk thru” with Sparta “politicos” this coming week at the Sparta Glen. My job will not only be to describe what we’re proposing to do to restore the stream, but to get them exited and willing to contribute to our project. Please wish me luck.

With regard to Sparta Glen, Marty McHugh will be our speaker on Wednesday, November 19. Marty is the former Director of NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, a lawyer, and is currently a consultant to the National Fish and Wildlife Association. Hopefully Marty can steer us to the funding we need to successfully complete our Sparta Glen Project.

Hey, please bring some of your hand tied flies to the November meeting for our annual Flybox Raffle. Thanks,

Glen Zeeck
