- Use this equipment idea to practice using the appropriate hand placement when shooting a basketball.
- This serves as a visual aid for learners who simply need a reminder.
- Shooting Cues
- "Start small, end tall" (Start with bending down and exploding upward, finishing the shot with your hands above your head)
- "Snap the wrist" (Snap wrist downward after releasing the ball)
- "B.E.E.F." (Balance, Elbow, Eyes, Follow Through)
- "Shoot Hand" & "Guide Hand" (dominant hand shoots the ball, non-dominant simply guides the ball - Don't shoot with two hands!)
- Basketball
- Paint or Marker
Instructions for Construction
- Dip hands in paint and place on the correct spots of the ball
- Hold hands on the ball, on correct spots, and trace with a marker.
- Color hand tracing in to create a more visual reminder.
HAND PLACEMENT LOCATIONS (See pictures)
- Dominant hand should be place in the front of the ball.
- Non-dominant hand should be placed on the side of the ball.
Modifications of Equipment
- Use a different ball for learners who cannot shoot the ball to reach the basket. (Smaller or lighter weight).
- Does not have to be a basketball.
- Write cues on the ball to serve as reminder when practicing.
