Balance Board

Uses

• Learners can practice their balancing skills with this quick and easy idea.
• Balance boards are a great way to practice balancing skills, as well as core and lower body strength and endurance.
• Make sure to practice in an open area. Softer surfaces are preferred for safety precaution.

Construction Materials

• 1 board that can support the weight of the learner without bending
• Cylinder-shaped object to balance on (pool noodle, PVC pipe, tin can, etc.)
• Tape

Instructions for Construction

1. Find or cut a board that's about 6 inches wider (on each side) than the learner's stance at shoulder width.
2. Tape around the area where the learner will place their feet to provide better grip in that area.
3. (Optional) Tape or glue the cylinder-shaped object to the bottom of the board to avoid it slipping out.
4. Lean the board over the object.

Modifications of Equipment

• Use an old skateboard for more fun and better grip.
• Challenge higher-skilled learners to play catch with you while balancing, or add some type of challenge to the skill.
