Uses
- Kicking a weighted ball reduces the speed and travel distance of the ball while still being able to practice the skill correctly.
- Less time spent chasing after the ball = more practice time and repetitions.
- Cues:
- "Step, Kick, Follow Through"
- "Step Opposite" (Step with opposite foot, kick with dominant)
- "Kick instep" (Use inside of foot)
- "Kick with your laces" (Use top of foot, NOT toes)
Construction Materials
- Soccer Ball
- Utility Knife
- Filler (Sand)
- Duct Tape
- Funnel
Instructions for Construction
- Find a ball.
- Make small (straight) incision into the ball (just big enough to fit the funnel).
- Insert funnel and add filler to desired weight.
- the heavier the ball, the less distance it travels
- Wrap tape over incision and all the way around the ball to ensure to avoid leakage (see pictures).
Modifications of Equipment
- Use a different ball that's comfortable to kick.
- playground ball, basketball, volleyball, etc.
- Find alternatives fillers if you don't have sand.
- small rocks, flour, cat litter, sugar, plastic bags, etc.
- If you don't have a funnel, use a spoon or rolled paper to fill the ball.
