Paper Plate Racket

Uses

• Use this piece of equipment to practice forehand, backhand and overhead striking skills with an implement or bare hand.
• This serves as a cheap alternative to a regular racket or paddle.
• This is useful for beginning or lower-skilled learners to practice tracking and striking an object that floats more slowly (balloon).
• The learner can practice hitting the balloon with themselves or with a partner.

Construction Materials

• Paper Plate
• Tape or Glue
• Popsicle or Craft stick
• Balloon

Instructions for Construction

1. Design the plate for fun and motivation.
2. Tape or glue the stick to the back of the plate, leaving enough of the stick for a handle that fits the needs of the learner.
3. Play!

Modifications of Equipment

• Use other longer, hard objects if you don't have a large popsicle stick (stick, ruler, spatula, drum stick, etc.).
• Put coins in the balloon to weight it down for higher-skilled learners.
• Play over a ping-pong table to serve as an easier and slower version of the game.
