By using a ball on a line, the learner is forced to practice the overhand throwing pattern while not allowing the ball to go below their shoulder (correct form).
All of the same patterns and cues can be used, just as anyone would normally throw.
Cues:
"Point, T, Step, Throw"
"Step Opposite" (Step with opposite foot)
Construction Materials
Stuffed football toy
String, yarn, or fishing line
2 regular water or soda bottles
needle and thread (or tape if it will stick to surface of the ball)
Tape
Scissors
Ruler
Instructions for Construction
Cut the tip off of each side of the ball to leave a quarter sized hole on each side.
Remove all of the stuffing from the toy.
Measure the distance from the 2 ends of the ball, when flat.
Cut the bottoms out from two plastic bottles and connect them so the length (from the top of each bottle) is the same as the new length of the football. Make sure to have bottle caps removed and disposed of appropriately.
Tape the tops of the bottles together so the openings are facing opposite directions.
Cut a straight line down the side of one end of the ball, starting from the tip that was just cut off. Cut as short as you can to still be able to fit the bottles inside.
Wrap the ball back around the bottles.
Insert the stuffing back into the football, around the bottles, NOT inside the bottles.
Sew or tape the small cut you made to fit the bottles inside the ball.
Hang a line at a designated location, suspending the football through it.
