RATIONAL
The school recognises its responsibility to monitor the inclusion of animals in any programme or learning environment.
“Animals” - is an all inclusive term which includes all living creatures.
INTENT
The Trentham School Board of Trustees and all staff are committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of all animals residing within the school grounds by complying with the animal health and safety guidelines
PURPOSE
The School will provide a safe environment for animals.
The School will also provide opportunities for students to learn appropriate care and the responsibilities that are associated with looking after another life form.
GUIDELINES
No protected or endangered species.
All animals will have an appropriate environment to reside in.
They must be maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
No pain, intentional harm or distress shall be caused by staff or students.
During School holidays appropriate arrangements must be made for the care, safety and maintenance.
All visitors, students and staff are encouraged to follow all instructions, rules and procedures.
CONCLUSION
The health, safety and day to day management will be the responsibility of the staff member in charge of the location where the animal resides.
