GUIDELINES
The Board of Trustees is responsible in consultation with the principal for developing a long-term maintenance and replacement programme. This programme will cover a period of ten years and will be updated at least every three years or when significant changes have been made to it. The program will be reviewed yearly as part of the annual planning process.
The principal is responsible for the day-to-day administration of cleaning, maintenance, meeting regulatory requirements and capital expenditure. Authority to carry out any of this work may be delegated by the principal to the deputy principal or other staff members.
The principal should report to each board of trustees meeting on any important items of cleaning, security, maintenance or capital expenditure that they have considered.
An asset register, detailing all school equipment and furnishings will be updated as required and reviewed annually.
The hazard register will be reviewed periodically and identified hazards will be reported to the Ministry of Education, reasonable steps to be taken to minimise risks as appropriate.
Parents/Caregivers of students responsible for damaging school property may be held liable to pay in full the costs of any damage caused, or make good. The parents/caregivers of the students involved may be billed in the first instance by the principal. Where deliberate intent for wilful damage occurs and payment not be forthcoming, or where there is financial hardship the Board of Trustees will take appropriate action to recover the costs, or make good.
The use of School facilities and assets by others in the community will be permitted at the discretion of the principal, where such actions do not compromise the needs and objectives of Trentham School, or the legal limitations of the Ministry of Education.
