To make evidence based decisions regarding the identification of students with special learning needs. These students are either ‘gifted and talented’ (above average ability, creative or have task commitment) or are students for whom there is concern or are at risk due to social, behavioural, intellectual, cultural or physical factors.
To make appropriate decisions to support students with learning needs in the classroom, school or wider community.
The Special Needs Implementation Plan gives information for identifying student’s needs and the procedures for obtaining or providing extra support.
Students identified with learning needs will be recorded in the Trentham School Patu or Koru Learning Support Register under Tier1,Tier 2 or Tier 3.
Learning support programmes run within the school are to be reinforced by the classroom teachers, as they are ultimately responsible for the learning needs of their students.
Differentiated classroom programmes will be planned and implemented to meet identified students’ learning needs.
A range of evidence, including classroom assessment and observations, school wide data, and the Register will be used when making decisions on who should receive extra learning support and the focus.
Prior to any extra learning support programme beginning, parents will receive a letter informing them of this extra support and this information will be recorded on eTap.
SLT/BOT will receive an analysis of how successful the extra support has been along with suggestions for following up on those who were least successful. Referral forms are available for accessing additional support from outside agencies.
