PURPOSE
To ensure that Trentham School’s staff, students and their caregivers are well prepared for school emergencies.
To enable the Board to fulfill its statutory responsibilities in a civil defence emergency.
GUIDELINES
The Health and Safety Committee (Principal, Health & Safety Staff Rep, Health & Safety Board Rep, Caretaker) will identify hazards that are controllable by the school and put in place processes to eliminate or minimize the risk that arises from those hazards.
The Board will ensure that Emergency procedures for the school are established and reviewed regularly.
The principal will ensure regular drills are undertaken to enable staff and students to be familiar with appropriate responses to emergencies and evacuation procedures. Dates of these drills will be reported to the Board.
The Board will ensure that funding is made available for appropriate staff training in emergency procedures, if required, and for the provision of up to date emergency kits.
The Board will liaise with the Health and Safety committee to establish an emergency communication plan to ensure that the Board and staff are aware of their responsibilities in the event of an emergency.
The Board will establish a Reunification Plan to ensure that the Board and staff are aware of the process of reuniting students with families following a significant emergency.
The principal will regularly liaise with Wellington Region Emergency Management Office (WREMO) in order to remain up to date with the latest developments in emergency procedures.
Emergency CB Radio, Portable AM/FM radio and school emergency communication plan are stored in the hall side room.
