Purposes
Hauora is a Māori view of health unique to New Zealand, and covers It considers te taha tinana - physical wellbeing, te taha hinengaro - mental and emotional wellbeing, te taha whānau - social wellbeing, and te taha wairua - spiritual wellbeing. This concept is recognised by the World Health Organisation and a NELP (National Education Learning Priority).
At Trentham School we recognise the relationship of our learning communities hauora on the educational outcomes for our ākonga. We understand that learning is fostered when ākonga feel safe, happy and healthy in our School environment.
We recognise and support the hauora of all members of our community.
To Empower our people to take ownership of their own wellbeing.
-For learners using tools such as Te Ara Whakamana to understand more about our learners and what they need to succeed.
Guidelines
Explicit promotion and teaching of strategies to enhance student hauora.
Schoolwide implementation of Te Ara Whakamana, a culturally based tool for positive behaviour change, to support students to develop the skills and knowledge to understand, communicate and manage their needs.
Te Whare Tapa Whā model will be visible in classrooms and integrated into classroom programmes - Included in ‘ Kotahitanga’ time to support teaching and learning practices.
School wide hauora activities for staff will be supported by a staff hauora team. These could include social get togethers and easy self managed activities.
Resources and tools can be accessed via the Trentham Teacher Resources Google Site (Hauora).
Collaborative planning and teaching practices will be supported in hubs to share workload.
New staff members will take part in an induction process and supported by a formally appointed buddy.
Staff wellbeing will continue to be a priority across the school.
All staff will be included and welcomed in Professional Development opportunities.
Wellbeing days will be offered where possible
Care packages will be collected to support staff who have experienced grief and loss.
Green weeks will be scheduled to have meeting free periods during each term
Continual review of workload including assessment and reporting schedules
Introduce a quick 3 Q meeting evaluation for the end of each staff hui as a measure for staff wellbeing/usefulness
Whānau and the wider community will be included in student ‘hauora’ learning.
Having fun will be an integral part of our practice.
Opportunities to find out from staff and students what is working well and what needs to be addressed, which will be implemented in a variety of ways such as focus groups, Kaiarahi and student voice, surveys.
The collection and analysis of this voice will lead to recommendations for improved practice across the school being implemented.
