TRENTHAM SCHOOL STATEMENT OF INTENT

PURPOSE
To ensure that investments made by the School comply with the Education Act 1989 and the Crown Entities Act 2004, and that terms of the investment are consistent with good financial management.
GUIDELINES
Under Schedule 6, Part 3, section 25 of the Education Act 1989, a board must perform its functions and exercise its powers in a way that is financially responsible.
Boards may:
invest money denominated in New Zealand dollars on deposit with a registered bank, or any other entity, that satisfies a credit-rating test as specified in either regulations made under Part 4 Sections 160 and 161 of the Crown Entities Act 2004 or a notice in the Gazette published by the Minister of Finance; or
invest in public securities where they have been approved by the Ministry.
The Board will approve all investments made under guideline 1 above.
In approving investments, the Board will consider the:
risk/return on the investment
the future cash flow requirements of the school
the bank or public security in which the investment is made
