PURPOSES
For students to:
Express themselves and ideas through the mediums of music, dance and drama
Develop art literacies through Developing Practical Knowledge, Developing Ideas, Understanding Arts in Context and Communicating and Interpreting Ideas, in:
(a) Dance (b) Drama (c) Music
Explore and appreciate the cultures of Aotearoa New Zealand.
GUIDELINES
For teachers to:
Provide opportunities for students to express themselves in the performing arts and critically evaluate performances.
Provide opportunities for students to develop as creators, presenters, viewers and listeners by:
performing, choreographing and responding to a variety of genre
using spoken and written word to use body language, movement and space confidently to communicate
listening and responding, singing, playing instruments, creating and improvising, reading symbols and notations, recording sound and music works and analysing and appreciating music in order to be appreciative reflective viewers and listeners.
Teachers will expose students to music, dance and drama through a variety of contexts including the unique bicultural and multicultural character of Aotearoa New Zealand.
