NAG 6: LEGISLATION
TRENTHAM SCHOOL STATEMENT OF INTENT
Ratified by BOT – September 2020
To ensure that the grounds and buildings of the school are kept free from the consequences of unauthorized alcohol or drug consumption by members of the public.
To ensure the grounds of the school are maintained as a safe place for the children and community.
To provide the New Zealand Police with the authority to act under the provisions of the Trespass Act 1980.
The Board of Trustees is the occupier of Trentham School located at Moonshine Road, Trentham, Upper Hutt. For the purposes of the Trespass Act 1980, every constable of the New Zealand Police acts under the authority of the Board of Trustees.
Alcohol or drugs (excluding medically prescribed medications) will not be consumed on the school premises when the school is open for instruction.
The school may occasionally have a function where the consumption of alcohol outside of instruction hours may be appropriate. With the prior approval of the Principal as agent of the Board, or the Board of Trustees, alcohol may be consumed by staff and invited guests.
Each and every constable of the New Zealand Police on duty or within the environs of Upper Hutt City is authorised to act as an agent of the Board of Trustees to:
Inform any person consuming alcohol or drugs within the grounds of the school to leave and/or leave and stay off the property.
Warn any person whose behaviour is disorderly or offensive (within the meaning of sections 3 and 4, respectively, of the Summary Offences Act 1981) or who commits an offence within the school property to leave and/or leave and stay off the property.
Remove or take any appropriate action they deem necessary against any person who commits an offence against the provisions of the Trespass Act 1980 by refusing to leave the school property after being warned to leave the place.
