Strong and harmonious links between the school and home enhance student learning. Communication and consultation should be ongoing, encouraging the free flow of information in both directions.
To enhance learning by establishing a responsive and effective partnership between the school and its community.
To promote and enhance close, effective communication channels between parents/caregivers/whānau and staff.
To promote a school climate in which parents/caregivers/whānau feel comfortable and confident about being at school and being involved in school activities.
To utilise the expertise of the school community to enhance learning and teaching programmes.
To reflect within the school the unique qualities of the community.
Communication and consultation about school programmes, plans and future directions will be regular and include specific consultation with the school’s Maori community.
Consultation by the school and the Board of Trustees will take a variety of forms - newsletters, community meetings/hui, BOT meetings, surveys and questionnaires, etc.
The Principal will report annually, and at other times as appropriate, to the Board of Trustees and the school community on:
a. the achievement of students as a whole and groups of students; and
b. professional and school-wide developments.
School policies will be available to the school community on request and outlines of learning programmes and curriculum developments will be communicated to parents and caregivers.
Dates for BOT meetings are publicised according to legislation.
The school will provide a welcoming and supportive environment that acknowledges the importance of parent support and partnership. Parents/whānau are encouraged and invited to assist the school in a variety of ways.
Liaison with pre-school establishments within the local area, takes place regularly.
Parents/caregivers are encouraged to communicate with the school whenever they have a query or issue.
Trentham School acknowledges the importance of its community and through consultation and partnership aims to provide the best possible education for its students.
