PURPOSES
To ensure Māori and Pasifika students achieve at a high level, and meet the requirements of the Māori Student and Pasifika Student Graduate Profiles at Trentham School.
To implement procedures that support the raised achievement of Māori and Pasifika learners.
To empower the goals of the Ministry of Education’s Māori Education strategy: Ka Hikitia and Pasifika Education Plan.
GUIDELINES
Annual achievement targets are set for groups of Māori and Pasifika students. These targets are monitored and reviewed termly by teachers and the Leadership Team.
Trentham School’s strategic plan identifies raised Māori and Pasifika achievement as an outcome. This achievement is reported to the board.
Achievement data is monitored to ensure progress is made. Learning programmes are planned considering the needs of Māori and Pasifika learners to ensure achievement success. Intervention programmes are made available according to established needs. Achievement data is not limited to numeracy and literacy data, but is collected in a range of areas of value to show progress and achievement.
Cultural responsiveness is valued at Trentham School and teachers are supported to develop their understanding of the cultural competencies outlined in Tātaiako.
Teachers are encouraged and offered opportunities to learn about effective teaching of Māori and Pasifika students.
Teachers will ensure that Māori and Pasifika students know they care about their learning, have high expectations of them and help them to succeed.
All students and staff are encouraged and offered opportunities to learn more and value Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.
Teachers are expected to form and maintain high quality relationships with Māori and Pasifika students and their families, recognising that such relationships are fundamental to student success.
The Māori and Pasifika community will be consulted upon when preparing or amending the school strategic plan. This document will reflect the unique position of Māori and Pasifika students.
Whānau hui and Pasifika fono will be held throughout the year to strengthen whanaunga and to consult with whānau and aiga on learning and achievement of Māori and Pasifika students.
