VISUAL ARTS

PURPOSES
For students to:
Participate in and celebrate their own and others’ visual works.
Develop visual literacy and aesthetic awareness.
Investigate the contexts in which art works are created, used and valued.
Explore and appreciate the visual cultures of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
GUIDELINES
Teachers will provide opportunities for students to express themselves using a variety of materials and processes..
Teachers will provide opportunities for students to discuss, manipulate and transform visual, tactile and spatial ideas to solve problems.
Teachers will develop students’ conceptual thinking within a range of practices through drawing, sculpture, design, painting, printmaking, photography and moving image.
Teachers will expose students to Māori contexts and other visual arts (e.g. European, Pasifika, Asian) that add significant dimensions to New Zealand visual culture.
