Triptych

Artist Statement:

For this project, I had to use the skills I learned from the triptych formative assignment, and apply them to make two more, for a summative. Since I learned some skills from the first triptych, I felt pretty comfortable going into this assignment in both taking the photos, editing them, and using photoshop. I was excited to start using photoshop again but also a little nervous because photoshop can be very confusing for me to navigate. For the triptychs, I had to take three photos that somehow went together, or followed a similar path/theme. For my final triptych's I took pictures when I went on a hike with my friends, and of my yard in the early morning, and put them together using photoshop.

As I mentioned above, I took these photos when I went on a hike with my friends. It was a very sunny day and it felt like spring and you can kind of see that through the final images. I just told my friends to act normal and I just took pictures of them. I also told them to do some posing and got some shots of that too. In the first one, you can see the top of the subject (my friend) looking out at the view, something the subject is doing (looking at a plant), and then the feet of the subject. This is kind of like a portrait triptych. For the second one, It represents more of an overview or summary of the hike, rather than of a person. For the third one, I woke up early and went outside, and took three different pictures of three different parts of my yard. These pictures are much more interesting to look at when they are all put together. To edit these photos, I just enhanced all of them so that they stood out more and matched better together. In photoshop, I made a custom canvas and used the guides to measure my canvas in order for the photos to all fit together proportionally. I did have some trouble at one point with the sizing and I overcame this struggle by cropping them all to the same size so that they would fit into the guides on my canvas.

I really like how my final triptychs turned out. I think that together, they make a story. They give the observer a perspective of this hike with my friends. I also really like them because they remind me that spring, and warm weather is coming soon. It was a very fun hike and I now have these triptychs to remind me of this day and how fun it was.
