Abstract Textures

Artist Statement: For this project, I had to take a roll of film of textures or something abstract. This was a little bit harder then the previous assignments, like portraits. I went around the school and took pictures of anything that had texture, made a pattern, or just looked abstract. Since these photos were abstract, I had to take them more close up, and I think if I did this again, I would turn the flash off on the camera because since I was so close up, the flash created a big glare in the photo.

After I had taken all my photos, I rolled my film and developed it in the canister. Then, in the next class, I made a contact sheet, and a print. For this print, I mad it take up an entire page because I had never done that before and I wanted to try it out. I made a test strip first and then the final print. I chose this photo for my final print because I think it has the best contrast of whites to grays to black out of all the photos. I also think is is a really cool abstract photo that has a lot of different textures and patterns to look at.

I really like how my final product turned out although this wasn't my favorite project. I think I prefer taking portraits, or take photos of things with more of a subject and composition. I have more fun with that so this project did not give me the most inspiration, making it a little harder to complete than normal. Although, I do like my final print and this assignment taught me more about how to use a camera and how to know when to use the flash or not.
