Portfolio Review:
I feel that my experience in Photography I was successful. I feel this way because I have learned so much about photography that I had not even considered. For example, the first project we did in this class was learning about photographic compositions. I did not even know that there was so much that goes into a photograph compositionally. I was able to take these new methods of photography and apply them to my personal photography throughout the rest of the semester. Also, I learned so much about photoshop and how to use the specific tools. This is a skill that I can use in other classes and for future projects. I feel that with all of these new skills and connections, this class was very successful for me.
The hardest thing for me when taking this course was probably taking the actual pictures for my projects. This was hard for me because sometimes I would run out of time when I needed a picture taken during the day or during certain weather or even a certain location. Also, sometimes I would need a specific subject for my photographs and if I couldn't find one, I needed to problem solve. Even though it was hard to find thing to take photos of, I quickly learned that photographic inspiration really is everywhere and you can take images without even realizing that it is a really cool photo.
My favorite project from this year was probably the portrait project. This was my favorite because it was really fun taking the actual photos. I went on a hike and took some of my friend as well as just hanging out and taking photos. I also think it was really cool how we used those portraits for future photoshop projects such as the color selection project. I think they turned out really good in those projects too. My least favorite project from this year was the multiple exposure project. This was my least favorite project because I had a lot of trouble creating final products that I liked. Those type of photos are also just not my favorite so I think it was harder to be satisfied with my work.
My understanding and appreciation of photography have changed greatly from this class. I had not realized how much thought and skill goes into just one photograph. Whether it's because of the specific composition or the dangerous conditions, photographers put so much work into capturing just one moment in a single image and that is something that I have been able to appreciate a lot more because of this class. I remember when we watched a video about how National Geographic photographers risk their lives in crazy conditions to get amazing photographs. I also was able to use my knowledge about photographic composition to find everyday scenes that could create great photographs in my head. I think being able to have the skill will be very handy in my future.
