Veggie Lady
7" x 10"
Canvas, acrylic paint, graphite pencil
The main idea of this artwork is inspired by the collage I made from clippings out of a magazine. It is pretty random, a lady holding vegetables in a little field. I wanted to create the background using different shades and tones of one color. For example, the sky is made up of different kinds of blue. I think the randomness of this piece makes it what it is. It's like it's disorganized, but organized at the same time.
To make this piece, first had to make a collage. I flipped through multiple magazines and cut or ripped pictures that stood out to me. I went into it having no idea of what to do but once I cut out the picture of the lady, I had my subject. After that, it was pretty easy because I just looked for colors like green and blue to fill in the background. I used glue to stick my magazine clippings onto paper. After that, I used a graphite pencil to sketch my idea out onto my canvas. I mixed different colors of acrylic paint to get the specific shades and tones that I wanted. I added layers of paint to make it nontransparent and have some texture.
I went into this project with no general idea of what the subject was going to be. I think the fact that we had to create something that we found in random magazines allowed us to be creative. This piece is very random and I don't think I would have come up with it in my head.
