Artist Statement:

For this project, I had to create three different pinch pots. The first one I created was a pinch pot with a foot. For this pot, I just pinched out a small pot and rolled and flattened a short coil out to use as a foot. This first pinch pot was a helpful introduction to the pinching technique that I used in my other two pinch pots. The second pinch pot that I made was the sculpture. I decided to make a monster because I liked how the actual pinch pot part could be the mouth and I could add all of the rest of the details around that. For this sculpture, I used a few different colors when glazing it because I wanted it to be more colorful and different when compared to the other ones that I made for this assignment. This pinch pot took me the longest amount of time to create because there were so many little things that had to be attached. The last pinch pot that I made, I could choose whatever I wanted. I chose to make a little bathtub because the idea randomly came to me when I was brainstorming and I thought it would be cute to make a mini bathtub.

The hardest part of this project was probably finding the time to create each pot and fire them and glaze them all. Since there were so many small things that needed to be glazed, it took me longer than I thought it would. This project made me realize how many different things you can make using the pinch technique. I like how all of my pinch pots turned out and I also think this project helped me get comfortable with the glazing process. My favorite piece from this project is probably the bathtub because it is simple, but the idea behind it is fun and it is something that I have not seen anybody else do. If I were to do anything different in this project, I may have focused on my glazing more and cleaned it up a little but overall, I am happy with the way everything turned out.
