Feet

Somersault

Artist Statement:

For this project, we had to take a photo that involved feet. I wanted to capture a picture of feet that shows just one of the little things that they can do, yet also show how important they are to people, even when we don't think about it. At first, I had a hard time coming up with an idea for this project. I kept thinking about how it would be easier if it was summertime, and warm out, but I finally got the idea for this when I was at swim practice.

To create this picture, I just asked my friend to do a flip or a somersault and I would just take a picture of when her feet came out of the water. It wasn't too hard to get the right photo but it did take a couple of tries and somersaults to get. To edit this picture, I mostly just made it a little brighter so the colors from the pool would contrast more with the feet and make them stand out. I also cropped this photo so that a person in the background's arm was not in it. I think that this adds more focus on the actual feet. For all of the editing, I used the photos app on my laptop.

I really like the final product of this assignment. I especially like how she is in action in the photo, and her feet are doing a lot of work, yet the photo makes it seem like they are just still above the water. I also really like how bright the pool is and it gives the picture a lot of saturation. The water splashing around her feet also make this picture more interesting to look at because the water looks as if it is moving, yet the feet are still. This photo was taken when my friends and I were having fun at swim and is a good reminder of a fun memory.
