Spilling Cup

Graphite pencils, Markers, Paper

9" x 12"

For this piece I needed to turn a randomly placed blob into a good drawing. Going into this I had no specific idea on what to do until I just started drawing. Once I started drawing I got the idea to make it look like liquid spilling from a cup. I don't think this piece specifically relates to a part of my life, but I do really like the simplicity of it, but with the pop of color and design in the cup.

The only materials I used for this drawing was a graphite pencil, markers, and paper. I used the pencil only to draw a rough outline for the drawing and added marker to make it darker with a cleaner look.

I experimented with the shapes of the splatters a lot because I wanted it to look good, but at the same time match the shape of the original blob that I built the entire piece around. I also added a little bit of detail inside the cup with the swirls to make it a little more unique and less boring. My project evolved because before I added the yellow to the cup and the swirls, it looked boring and it looked like something was missing from the overall look. I also think it evolved when I added more splash marks. If I were to add on to this drawing I would probably add more details around the drawing like maybe a table or a hand spilling the cup.
