Adjusting Flowers

Artist Statement:

For this assignment, I had to take a photo (or photos) of hands. At first, I had a hard time coming up with an approach to this hand theme. We looked at many different examples in class which did help me a little but I finally came up with the idea of hands organizing a flower arrangement when my mom got flowers from the store.

To create this picture, I had my mom be the hand model. I asked her to just arrange the flowers like she normally would and I would just take pictures of them from above. I had to tell her where to move her hands a little because I was looking at what looked best as a still picture. I didn't have to do too much editing to these photos but I did touch them up by cropping and adjusting the color levels in the Photos app on my laptop. The theme of this picture is hands because by looking at the picture, you can see one unique way people use their hands and it shows how important hands are even when it comes to the little things.

I like how my final result turned out. I decided to have two pictures instead of one because I like both and they go together well. I really like how the bright flowers add a lot to the theme of hands and make the picture much more interesting. I also really like how in the second photo, if you look closely you can see the hand on the left moving while everything else in the photo is still. I like this because it shows how the hands are working and moving to create the flower arrangement. I think that the strongest factor of these two images is the color, especially from the flowers because that color makes the photo stand out and adds a lot of character to the photo.
