My name is Maya Carignan. I was born in Portland, Maine. I have one older sister, Ella, who is 18 years old. As for pets, I have a dog named Henry who is eight years old. I speak English at home along with the rest of my family. I don't know exactly what I want to do for a career right now but hopefully, I will figure that out over the next few years. I do know that I don't want to have a job where I just sit at a desk all day. In five years, I hope to be in college and have an idea of what I want to do after I graduate. I also hope to have an idea of where I want to live. I want to go to a college that is not too far away, but I also want to experience life in a new location, not too close to home.I don't think I know anyone other than my current and past art teachers that have gone to college for art. I am most proud of my grades (so far) and my ability to maintain good grades In my free time, I enjoy swimming in the ocean, hanging out with friends, and playing soccer. I also like to ski in the winter. I enrolled in this course because I enjoyed photo I and I was very interested in learning how to use the darkroom since I was not able to use it last year due to covid. The photographers that I am most interested in right now are William Eggleston and Pablo López Luz. I am interested in these photographers because they capture simple and ordinary moments that make you think and are very unique. I also like how their images are older-looking. I don't know exactly what my dream job would be but I hope that I can have a job that involves traveling getting to see other parts of the world. I don't want a job where I just sit in an office all day. Three adjectives others might use to describe me are, organized, thoughtful, and hardworking.
Vincent Van Gogh, Café Terrace At Night, 1888.
I like this painting because it is a very happy painting. I like the way it captures a scene and is not extremely realistic. You can see Van Gogh's brush strokes which can allow you to better understand the amount of effort that was put into this painting. I have liked this painting for a while because it seems like a place that I would want to visit. Van Gogh has a very specific technique and his art really stands out to me. It seems simple at first, but if you look closer you can see that there is a lot of detail that makes it what it is. When observing this painting, you can almost put yourself into the scene, which is not easy for artists to achieve. This painting is of a cafe that is still a thing in the South of France. This painting was created so long ago yet it is timeless and is still loved to this day.
I like this photograph because I really enjoy the color scheme. I also love the old-fashioned look of it and how the film looks. I really like film photography. I also think the car looks really cool. This photo is kind of mysterious and it also has no title which makes you think what the meaning and purpose behind it is.
William Eggleston, Untitled, 1974
Stephen Shore, Ginger Shore, Causeway Inn, Tampa, Florida, November 17, 1977
I like this photograph because of the look of the film. I also love the way the camera captures the ripples in the pool. I like how bright the blues are in this picture in the pool, the girl's swimsuit, and the chair in the background. This image is very peaceful and reminds me of summer. It is very interesting to look at and it is very vibrant. The lighting in this photo is also very bright which I really like.
This photo stood out to me because I love the way the sky looks. The colors in the sky are so pretty. I love sunsets and sunrises so I immediately took a liking to this photo. The photographer captured a very peaceful moment that makes you wish you could be there in this moment. This image reminds me of summer and gives off a very happy and peaceful vibe. This picture also kind of reminds me of Maine, even though it was taken in Alaska.
Corey Arnold, After All Night
Richard Misrach, Untitled, 2004, 48 x 115 in.
I love this picture because I love the beach. I like how small the people look because of how high up the photo was taken. I love going to the beach and swimming in the ocean and this photo really shows the peacefulness and simplicity of just laying on a towel at the beach. I also like this photo because it makes me think of summer. I'm not sure how this picture was taken or what type of camera was used but I really like it.
